Stone Meanings
Diamond: The hardest substance we know, diamonds are a stone of fearlessness and invincibility, revealing the power and inner light of the wearer as well as protecting them energetically. Much like the way they are impervious to heat and environmental changes around them, diamonds transfer an air of impenetrability to the wearer’s mind. An amplifier of energy similar to quartz (although more powerful) they can intensify the healing power of stones they are near, as well as cleansing and amplifying energy in a positive way. Because of this they can be used to bring clarity and create peace within busy minds. They also symbolize eternity and purity which is one of the many reasons they are the most common stone for wedding rings.
Blue Opal: Joyous awareness and power in the physical and spiritual. Opals enhance the cosmic awareness of the wearer while blue opals in particular clear the throat chakra and bring joy to life through dissolving negative and overwhelming energy. Wonderful for promoting creativity and helping the wearer to realize their power in creating their own reality. They are also incredibly healing and reassuring, like water (think of a calming bath). The ancient Greeks believed that the stone came from the happy tears of Zeus after he triumphed over the titans. (A personal note: My most blocked chakra is my throat chakra. I have found that the blue opals that I wear everyday feel incredibly strong and elemental. I feel soft but powerful and very sure of myself when I wear them.)
Fire Opal: Fire opals are incredibly positive and abundant. They take the energy and intention of the wearer and amplify it out from them. Perfect for the kind-hearted and well-intentioned, these increase karmic power. They also affect the people and energies around the wearer, reflecting emotions and thoughts back to their source.
Pearl: Pearls are symbolic of purity, wisdom, and love of the universe. They mean morality and truth and help the wearer to know who they are and what is right. They are also incredibly cool and calming, dissipating anxiety and allowing the wearer to go with the flow. The pearls creation, starting as an irritation in a shell and becoming something incredible and beautiful, is a perfect metaphor for its function on the body. It allows the wearer to take the negative and overcome it to become a an even wiser being of light and love.
Turquoise: Turquoise has a rich history, traditionally thought of as a protective stone and deified by many cultures all over the world. It is intrinsic to the Tibetan culture of energy and healing work while also being worn as protective pieces during the renaissance in Europe to name just a few. Incredibly healing, it balances the chakras, especially the throat chakra, while creating inner tranquility. It is very grounding and soothing and absorptive of negativity, especially good for anyone with a history of trauma, a stressful job, or a lot going on.
Tourmaline: Another balancing stone, tourmaline is very versatile. It targets polarities, harmonizing opposites inside and outside the body, in whatever form they take. It is wonderful for physical ailments that result from imbalances in energy such as inflammation, headaches, and even seizures. (A personal note: I suffer from migraines and seizures and since starting to wear my tourmaline ring, both have been greatly remedied. It is quite amazing.)
Green Onyx: Green onyx is a protective heart stone. It protects and soothes the heart. Strong and unwavering, it brings with it a profound sense of strength, discipline, and willpower. It is incredibly powerful in shielding the body and heart from any negative energy.
Moonstone: Moonstone, a stone of water, is calming and channels the moon. The same way the ocean and our bodies react to the changing pull of the moon, so does moonstone. When the moon is waxing, moonstone channels love, increasing as the moon becomes more full. When the moon wanes, moonstone increases clairvoyance and the connection to the astral. You are the universe experiencing itself and moonstone helps to realize and deeply understand this.
Herkimer Diamond: A highly refractive form of quartz found exclusively in Herkimer, New York. If any stone is a cure-all it is quartz, it magnifies positive energy and cleanses, holding space for good and helping the wearer to dissipate the bad. It has been scientifically proven to take the energy put into it and amplify it. This makes it oustanding for pairing with other stones, as it greatly increases their power. Herkimer diamonds are often found in perfect quartz points, making them wonderful for positively directing and concentrating this energy.
Sunstone: Sunstone is very warm and happy. It gently energizes with joy, making the wearer less susceptible to stagnation and depression. An inspiring stone, it can encourage artistry and expression of the soul without fear or hesitation. It also helps nurture self worth and independence, allowing the wearer to see that they are all they need.
Rutilated Quartz: Buddhists say quartz is one of the seven precious substances. Quartz magnifies positive energy and cleanses negative energy, clearing out darkness to make room for abundant light. It has been scientifically proven to take the energy put into it and amplify it. Rutilated quartz, with its shoots of rutile, holds even more concentrated power than other forms of quartz, steadily breaking through dense and dark energy even more easily than other forms of quartz. Physically, it can work on ailments within the body in the same way as energy, removing toxins and breaking up densities.
Labradorite: Labradorite is a protective stone. It grounds the physical and spiritual while blocking negative or unwanted energy. It helps to observe and learn from energies without taking their burden on. Sapphire: Sapphire is a stone of endurance and wisdom. It connects to the Saturn-Mercury energies, elevating joy and consciousness. The sapphires that are within the cornflower blue range, lighter than the typically thought of deep-blue sapphires, are incredibly optimistic. Chrysoprase: Chrysoprase is very happy and light and creative, like sunshine. It is an optimistic stone which gives way to deeply recharging peace and meditation. It tends to bring in luck and good fortune and promotes growth and abundance through harmonizing with nature and the universe. In terms of physical effects, it is wonderful for cleansing and detoxifying the body.
Red Jade: Similar to chrysoprase, jade is also lucky and abundant, helping to lead a wholesome life. Red jade in particular brings more passion, strength, and fearlessness than other jade colors. It stimulates the body and mind, making way for action and feeling powerfully productive in life in general. Good for those in need of energy or confidence.
Pyrite: Pyrite is a very grounded protector against darkness of any kind. It allows the wearer to see through illusions and facades, but to more importantly not be bothered by them. It makes it easy to see them for what they are, as problems of the person creating them, having nothing to do with the wearer. It similarly releases accumulated trauma, some that we don’t even know we have, and makes way for joy and positivity, enlivening the spirit and giving cause for celebration of life. It can create a great sense of having overcome heavy obstacles and yields deep peace.
Jasper: Since long ago, jasper has been believed to ward off disease, energize the body, and relieve sorrow and mental heaviness. It clears inclinations to negative thinking as well as preventing intrusive thoughts and nightmares. A wonderful stone for releasing stress, jasper creates a happy ease about life, inspiring courage and a willingness to think deeply. Additionally, jasper can be good for cleansing the energy of your pets. Hovering the stone over their bodies releases any negative energy they have accumulated and is even said to be able to cure physical ailments such as achy muscles or joints.
Topaz: Topaz is strongly connected to the sun, its name meaning fire in Sanskrit. It is amazingly pyroelectric, meaning that when it is vigorously agitated or rubbed it can quite literally generate electricity. This goes to show its power in re-energizing the aura and body of the wearer and granting courage. Its compelling nature also creates gentle passion, deepening friendship and camaraderie in a very genuine way. One of its very unique attributes is that it can create bonds with animals and people alike. Carnelian: Carnelian is a loving and strengthening protection stone, promoting courageous thinking and actions and bringing passion and an abundance of good fortune into the wearer’s life. Emerald: The ancient Incan civilization prized emeralds as a stone representation of the earth.
